Canfor Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

Canfor Corporation is an integrated forest products company based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

A former employee shares his devastating experience on indeed.com, "I endured racial discrimination at Canfor, poor management on all levels, drove unsafe equipment (forklift with no brakes) no air conditioning or heater. The HR department, not employee-friendly, supervisor lead by intimidating employees, wouldn’t accept logical reasoning on how to perform a certain task in a safer manner. Obviously unqualified to hold her position, but the factory manager backed her no matter if she was right or wrong. I worked for Canfor 15 months and never got a raise."

Millwright (Former Employee) says

"Not worth my time listing their deficiencies but I have to write something so long story short, stay far far away from this place. Beautiful area but that's the only perk and it wont be beautiful much longer once Canfor is done trashing the place."

Maintenance Electrician (Current Employee) says

"just a number and so are you.... we slave to make money for the powers that be. for nothing more then scraps, and when the market goes soft we are left to fend for ourselves. not even willing to take the slightest loss before they tuck tale and run like the cowards they are. absolutely no teamwork here. sickening really."

ROUND TABLE LABORER (Former Employee) says

"I worked on the round table stacking lumber by hand I'd move up to operator for months st a time. But never get paid for it and when folks quit the round table I'd be placed back there on an unlivable poverty wage.HealthcareUnsafe conditions."

Lead supervisor (Former Employee) says

"If you have a disability or older then they will terminate you without reason expect that your not the right fit or they job they do you wrong and terminate you with no write ups or warnings anything just because your older and have disabilitiesPay managementEverything"

Saw Operator/Forklift Operator (Former Employee) says

"I worked here for 5 years and jus got first raise in like 2 years and they work ur but off and nothing to show for it so I quit and need a job asap!!!"

Utility Worker (Former Employee) says

"I worked night shift in the planer mill. Round table. Got chastized constantly by a guy that stayed upstairs smoking cigs most of the night. Not professional at all. More like (ill fire you if you talk back.) benefits are there but worthless honestly. Dont work for kenny davis. Have respect for your selfOff weekendsKenny davis"

Millwright (Former Employee) says

"I worked as a Millwright in the Radium mill. Management is some of the worst I have ever worked for. No maintenance planning or parts available expect you to just get it done. Management changed my shift on me constantly with little to no notice. Management points the finger at anyone just to pass blame there motto is "work now greave later". To top it all off it is very unsafe working alone all the time equipment is all falling apart. They say safety is number 1 but I was not trained on anything and left to figure it out from day one. Moral was also very bad everyone is unhappy there. I would say stay away not worth relocating.good payeverything"

Operator (Current Employee) says

"It's just a job not a career nothing special about it not paid fair not treated fair but it gets me by but I am looking daily for something else so I can better provide for my family"

welder (Former Employee) says

"where to begin on this long list of flaws DO NOT RELOCATE UNTIL THROUGH PROBATION -first of all the equipment is terrible and outdated (doesnt even have enough duty cycle to gouge) and doesnt reflect on jobs taking longer -if you have any sort of pride in your welding be sure you can throw it out the window as doing a good job "takes to long" so be prepared to scab out to the max -no sense of guidance for people new to industry but are expected to produce as much as a person whos been there for years -spark watch takes off for hours at a time (not able to cut grind weld etc without their presence) also reflects your work abilities -Cant trust many people as far as you can throw them -the superintendant looks at your list and determines himself with no knowledge of what the job entails how MANY things you should be able to get done in a day -as well as no other welders to show you the ropes I GAVE UP MY LIFE TO RELOCATE FOR THIS JOB TO BE LET GO NOT FOR SLACKING BUT DUE TO ALL THE FLAWS THIS MILL HAD WITH EVERYTHING I WAS DETERMINED TO BE NOT A RIGHT FIT NOW MY FAMILY IS ABOUT TO GO BANKRUPT BECAUSE OF THIS COMPANY. THIS IS ALSO THE FIRST TIME I HAVE BEEN LET GO FOR THIS REASON IN MY 8 YEARS EXPERIENCE AS A WELDER.weekend shifteverything else"

Shipping Supervisor, Team Lead, Shipping Clerk (Former Employee) says

"The management is a gang against the employees. They will work you and not pay you your rightful pay and at the first sign of you not being satisfied they will terminate youNoneEverything about them"

Round table (Former Employee) says

"Where do I start? The management is awful. They don’t want to listen to people and turn a blind eye to blatant safety violations and then threaten your job and tell you to “watch what you say” when you bring up said safety violations to them. I’m pretty sure if OSHA were to walk in there right now they would shut the place down. Benefits are good and starting pay is decent but they are really iffy when it comes time to give someone their raise. The HR department doesn’t communicate anything we tell them to coporate and even though there have been multiple accidents at this plant, myself included, the management and other higher ups keep thse hidden from corporate to keep their “safety” record alive. People that work their are great though. They really become your second family due to being around them for 12 hours a day 5 days a week."

Laborer (Former Employee) says

"I would not recommend anyone to work for this company. I was recruited to this job by the company. I was told how the operation worked but it was all lies. Nothing I was told was true. They talk a good game about safety, but that’s all it is, is talk. If your not young, they really have no use for you. They tell you what you want to hear, then will cut your throat. DO NOT Work for this place.NothingManagement is the worst I’ve seen in my 30yrs of sawmill work"

Production Job (Current Employee) says

"I have been there 30 years. I have seen many changes. It was a good place to work at at one time. I have had 6 bosses in 5 years. That all think they are better than their employees. You can't be a successful company if not for your employees. Bosses and employees play games against each other. Not a very good environment to work it. Lots of pressures on employees and no resources. Every employee doing a job half. Employees get hurt on the job and the company don't take responsibility for there actions. You dont want to do a job where you are vulnerable because of age. I recommend that young employees get a education. And not work here. Canfor is better at other operation I hear. The fiber and log size is falling. This mill will be closed one day.It is a jobBus ride, horrible highway in winter, high turn over in employees; lack training and respect employees, unreasonable pressures on employees, Management downloading responsible on employees, Bosses dont manage"

Machine Operator (Former Employee) says

"Poor management, hard word no time off for family, and very racist individuals, very little time with family, short breaks 30 min for lunch, very rude do not know how to talk to employees NoneShort breaks, long hours physical work"

Machine Operator (Current Employee) says

"ithis is the only company i every work for dont care about tere workers we have alot of people with the virus and they still what that number thats all they worried about"

Energy plant millwright (Former Employee) says

"The management team are spineless and will stab you in the back any chance they get. They don't really care about safety and turn a blind eye to most safety rules. Except wearing gloves. And when you bring up safety issues you get in trouble."

Production Supervisor (Former Employee) says

"Unless you want to work 60-70 hours a week and every other weekend or a minimum of 6 hours then you better look elsewhere. This is also one of the most unsafe places, with 8 recordable accidents in 2018 and numerous daily lock out / tag out violations. The management does not care one iota about the health and safety of the employees, but they are all about how much money they can make and how big their bonus will be.There are no ProsNo work life balance, if you work here you are expected to sacrifice yourself and family for this place."

Lumber Grader (Former Employee) says

"Workers were made to work more hours if production goals were not met because of machinery breaking down. If an operator told the maintenance supervisor there was machinery that needed to be fixed he would get upset and treat operator very badly, and didnt fix machinery forcing everyone to work more hours. Maintenance supervisor, along with other supervisors would sit in office all day and not walk around and make sure everything was running properly. No work life balance, you never knew what time you would be getting off each day. They dont do your 90 day review on time, which means you lose money if you should be getting a raise. Hardwork is not rewarded. Some days you may work 13 hours or more.NonePoor management, low pay, no work life balance"

Production Worker (Current Employee) says

"Pay is ok. Benefits are ok. Takes an act of Congress to get a break or even a bathroom break. Some people do whatever they want, while others are pushed to the limit. Management calls the shots to work all the hours, but they never stay with the employees working the long hours. Management causes a very hostile work environment. Personally think the labor board needs to be called on them.Pay, benefitsNo breaks. Rode hard all the time"

ASSISTANT PLAN MANAGER (Current Employee) says

"The company's hierarchy is built on a whom is related to whom and unsafe practices.a bird eye's view of wood production and a ability for hands on experience.too many to list."
